For your website to rank well on Google, you need to ensure that your on-page optimization is configured correctly. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) considers a wide variety of factors in which it uses to rank websites on Google. We have worked with many businesses in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Donegal and all over Ireland helping to optimize their on-page SEO. When we work with a client we our on page SEO is one of the first steps we take to improve their presence on Google.
We will discuss 9 of the most effective SEO on page techniques below:
1) Titles – Your titles need to include your Keywords at the start. Google will favour websites who have we pages with their Keywords mentioned in the title at the beginning. An example of this would be “Roofing Contractors Dublin” or “Best Plumbing Services Dublin”. This is a key factor in ranking on Google, edit your titles to have your keywords mentioned and you are off to a good start!
2) Headlines – H1 are the most important headings on your page. These will be large headings generally introducing another part of the page, such as services, about or areas covered. You should aim to keep your headings short and sweet if possible. You should also aim to use numbers within your headings e.g 10 D.I.Y Home Improvement Tips. You should also ensure that your headings match the content which will follow the heading. This is to ensure relevancy and again is something that Google considers for SEO rankings.
3) First 100 words. You will need to mention your keywords within the first 100 words of your web page or blog post.
4) Internal Links – You should use keyword driven internal links to add relevance to other articles that back up the content for your readers and shows the page it well structured to Google. Try to ensure the anchor text is natural and not forced, keep the link relevant. You should try to aim for 3-4 internal links per 1500 words.
5) External Links – If you use external links this will allow you to build trust between both you and your reader as well as the search engines. Ensure that the domain you are linking to is trustworthy and a key influence in the industry. You should also ensure that the page you are linking to is from a popular site that you feel would have a lot of traffic.
6) URL structure – URL’s are massively important to your on page SEO success. You should aim to keep your URL’s short ideally 3-5 words in length. Do not use dates within your URL, this will hurt your ranking. You should use hyphens to separate your keywords within your url e.g. mechanics-Dublin-Ireland. The final step to successful URLs is to ensure that you have a SSL Certificate installed on the website so that all of your URLs are secure!
7) Readability – Make sure your content is user friendly and easy to read. You should use short sentences and write it in an active voice. Try incorporating an image every 75-100 words. Include call to actions on your page, these can be buttons to encourage the user to contact you. TOP TIP – include ALT tags on all images uploaded as this will increase the relevance and make it more accessible.
8) VIDEO – Users love video. If you have videos you should add them to your pages as this will increase user engagement and make them stay on your site longer which is great for your stats!
9) Social Sharing – Make sure to add share buttons to your site so that it is easy for users to share your content to their social platforms. Social media shares are great to help you with ranking on Google. Search engines will also rank your page higher if it gets more shares as they will assume it is valuable content!
